I would like to comment you this interesting record at the limit of Shannon and Sole sea areas, off SW Ireland; I think it is a different bird from that seen in Greystones, Co. Wicklow on 13.7.2020, as 'our' bird was seen in SW Ireland that day until ~12:00 GTM, and Wicklow bird was there at 15:50 GTM (the locations are about 400 km apart, too much distance to be covered in just 3:50 h). There are also differences in tail feathers and underparts, visible in the pictures.
Data is as follows:
BROWN BOOBY (Sula leucogaster)
12 and 13.7.2020
1 adult or near adult perched onboard a fishing vessel about 73 nautical miles SW of Cape Clear, Ireland; stay there for two days.
Coordinates first sighting: 12.7.2020 was at 50º18.34N, 10º50.93W. Time: ~14:00 GTM
Coordinates last sighting: 13.7.2020 was at 50º00.67N, 10º58.04W. Time: ~12:00 GTM.
Observers: Benito ESTÉVEZ, José Carlos FERNÁNDEZ and Carlos PEREIRA.
Communicated by: Martín RODRÍGUEZ and Cosme Damián ROMAY.
Cronologically, this would be the third Irish record of the species, being the Co. Wicklow bird the fourth.
Please feel free to use the attached pictures but cite the three observers (Benito ESTÉVEZ, José Carlos FERNÁNDEZ and Carlos PEREIRA) as the authors and, if possible, Martín RODRÍGUEZ and Cosme Damián ROMAY as the informers.
